Cuca - Tapas, Cocktails, Desserts (Bali)

Cuca Flavors is currently one of the most exciting restaurants in Bali. It is located in Jimbaran, not on the beach but in the middle of a huge garden planted with coconut trees.  It is a fine dining restaurant offering gastronomic experiments like no other venues on the island.

Cuca is headed by a Spanish couple (Castillan and Basque): Chef Kevin Cherkas who was trained in some of the world's best restaurants (in particular El Bulli in Spain) and Virginia Entizne.

The design is rather minimalist, with an air-con area where you can see the kitchen team at work, or an outside area which is very peaceful.

At first, the menu didn't seemed to me as weird as I thought. It is only when each of the dishes came to our table that I realized the originality of Cuca.

It would be boring for you and for me to describe each of the dishes in details. To sum up, the presentation and originality of each of them is exceptional. Regarding the taste, I see rave reviews about Cuca and I think most of them are exaggerated. You will test some unique combinations of flavors during your meal, some of them you will like, and some of them you will not. Personally, I actually really enjoyed only half of the food above. I don't think it is the purpose of the Chef to please 100% of its customers with one dish.

Overall: In Cuca, you will experiment new ways to cook and to eat food. None of the dishes will leave you indifferent: You will be surprised, amused, or made curious by the taste, the colors, the shapes of the dishes prepared for you. Come with an open mind and you will be delighted!
