Sundara Beach Club (Four Seasons Jimbaran)

Sundara, the beach club attached to the Four Seasons Hotel in Jimbaran, opened in 2013 with the ambition of becoming the Ku De Ta of Southern Bali. They built it on the ruins of JPs, the previous beach restaurant of the hotel.

The owners spared no expenses to reach this objective. The designer team, also behind the Rock Bar in Ayana did a truly great job. Sundara is one of the best-looking restaurants I have seen in Bali. It is fancy and luxurious, but not too pretentious. It has an outside area with a long swimming pool, and an air-con area with a bar and comfortable leather sofas. You will get a nice view on Jimbaran beach, especially at sunset time.

Before the opening, they brought in an army of foreign consultants for cocktails, wines, food, etc... Even now, they still have at least 3 foreigners to manage it: The Director of Operations, the Chef, and the Sommelier.

The service is impressive. You are taken care of by friendly hostesses from the moment you step in. Once you sit, just move an arm for a second and a waiter will come to you. Everyone calls you by name and you get some canapés every once in a while.

The menu (see below) features rather expensive food and drinks. A standard cocktail costs around 220,000rp net and for food, you will need between Rp300,000 and Rp500,000 for a two-course meal. The good deal is to go to Sundara during their happy hours, everyday from 5pm to 7pm, when you have a Buy 1 Get 1 promotion. Their Sunday Brunch is also an interesting option at Rp350,000 (+21% tax and service).

I only tried the cocktails and the free food they were passing around. I didn't fall off my chair trying them, so I'm glad I didn't spend more money for a whole meal. You have some much cheaper options nearby, particularly Jimbaran Beach Club.

Overall: I will definitely try Sundara again, but only during Happy Hours when their prices become affordable. If you have money to spend and if you stay around Jimbaran, then I recommend it to you with no hesitation for the atmosphere, design and service.

Note that as the beach club is part of the Four Seasons Hotel, non-guests do not have access to the same facilities, in particular regarding the use of day beds.
